How to Overcome Disordered Eating {An Interview with the Gut Goddess}

August 16, 2018

How to Overcome Disordered EAtingDo you have a love-hate relationship with food?

Do you struggle with those little voices that criticize how you look even though you think of yourself as pretty conscious around body image?

Maybe you ask yourself, “Why do I keep tripping myself up, binging or not keeping my promise that I’ll go on a diet?”

It can make you feel like a loser to have these ‘failures’. You may even put yourself down because you haven’t been able to change your behaviour even though you’re intelligent and aware. You know you want to take action, but are not taking action – why is this?

I had the privilege to talk with Kezia Hall, the Gut Goddess, on her podcast about how mindset gets in our way from feeling powerful about our bodies, and about how to overcome disordered eating.

If you don’t know her, Kezia Hall, the Gut Goddess, runs Super-Naturally Healthy, a business dedicated to empowering and equipping people to bring greater health, healing, and joy into their life and world through nutritional and lifestyle changes. She also doesn’t shy away from talking about poop, which I love. That’s right. Poop conversations are really important, and I bet you don’t regularly have them!

So, how do you get out of the hamster wheel of wanting to eat healthy, but actually taking action? You start by taking a look at your beliefs around your body, around food, and around what is and is not healthy.

Have a listen to the podcast and tell me what you believe – what is your truth around healthy eating? What are some of the ways you operate and what do you believe about that? Is food huge an emotional issue for you? Are your beliefs carried down from your parents?

If you need help sorting out your beliefs around healthy eating and food, let’s chat about your situation and see how I can help.

Three Ways Feminine Energy Will Grow Your Business

June 11, 2018

Three ways feminine energy will grow your businessThe exploration of feminine energy is a topic that has come up a lot. Men and women can bring in feminine energy to help grow their business, so it is not about being ‘anti-male’ energy. We are a balance of 50/50 male and female energy, but today, I am talking about three ways of embracing your feminine energy so you can grow your business. This applies to both female AND male business owners.

What is Masculine Energy?

Are you living in your masculine energy too much? Most time is spent in masculine energy. Spending time in male energy is more often than not seen as more important than female energy by society. Male energy can be defined as burning the midnight oil to the point of burn out.  It has to do with being too goal-oriented, working to the point of exhaustion, being competitive, setting hard goals for ourselves, etc. This could also include feeling as though we have to “suck it up” when experiencing an injury or hurt or spending too much time focusing on the competition.

What is Feminine Energy?

Feminine energy is collaboration, creativity, inclusiveness, listening to ourselves and our bodies, taking time out for ourselves, nurturing, etc. Basically, anything we associate as feminine. Being in touch with your feminine energy can grow your business.

Three ways to pay attention to your female energy

  • Listening – Listen to your clients and understand what they struggle with and how you can help them. Listening to this and being able to communicate how you can solve their problems will make them want to work with you and keep you in their lives.
  • Collaboration – whether you are building a business or looking to grow your business, you need to connect with communities and tribes that can support your initiative. Collaborate with other like-minded business people who can support and spread the word about you and your business. This could lead to business partnerships and referrals. It could also mean having a fellow business owner you can rely on for an open ear over coffee to discuss entrepreneurship. Collaboration is all about surrounding yourself with those who understand you.
  • Intuition – Use your intuition (what you feel) to guide your business. Instead of listening to your male energy that tells you something is logical and therefore you should do it, listen to your intuition. What do your feelings tell you? This is what Oprah Winfrey did in her career. While everyone was telling her to do one thing, she listened to and followed her intuition. She was told her magazine would not make any money and that her television network would not succeed, but she proved them wrong and followed her intuition, which proved prosperous!

Remember, the feminine energy can be applied to both men and women – we are a balance of 50/50 male and female energy. Being in touch with your feminine energy is being in touch with your feelings and with those around you in a way that will help you grow your business.

Stop fearing what will happen if you raise your prices!

April 19, 2018

Time and time again I hear from people who feel they are over-delivering and under paid. When they look at their numbers at the end of the month they are not seeing the money they wish they had for the work they were doing.

I understand that feeling. For many years, I undercharged for services and before that I negotiated contracts for myself. I sucked at it. And I didn’t have anyone to guide me, until someone I worked with, guided me. When it came to asking people to pay me, I was too concerned with what other people felt and what their money fears and baggage were – instead of focussing on my own. I abdicated my responsibility for my own money mindset. When I realized what I was doing, I decided to start focussing on my money mindset.

By working on my money mindset, I was able to overcome the fears I have about raising my prices. I stopped leaving money on the table!

If you have reached your income ceiling and want to raise that ceiling then you need to work on your money mindset. Whether you are self-employed or working at a career where you know you should be earning more – don’t leave money on the table! Too often entrepreneurs are not charging their worth.

I am running a free webinar specifically on this topic. It’s Wednesday, April 25th at 4 p.m. and if you can’t make it live, still sign up – a replay will be sent to everyone who enrols. Many of us have beliefs about where we ‘should’ be financially, and those beliefs can limit us from really making the money we can make. Join me on the 25th and stop fearing what will happen if you raise your prices or ask your boss for more money!

The Power of Intention

February 5, 2018

IntentionA couple of months ago I picked up a DVD set of Oprah Winfrey’s old TV talk show. One of the episodes featured an interview with Gary Zukav, author of The Seat of the Soul. Throughout the interview, they discussed the book and Oprah admitted the book contained practical advice that she was able to apply to her career, particularly the “principle of intention.”

In brief, the “principle of intention” surrounds the idea that the power of our thoughts sends out an energy and that is what causes the outcome; a cause and effect theory – with your thoughts being the cause.

The Power of our Fears

When you look at someone like Oprah Winfrey – she has used intention to guide her business. Her intention became focused on how her show could best serve the world.

Ultimately, I think a lot of us feel our businesses are a service – that our businesses help others. But this is not always the intent we set out in our businesses. I know for myself, what I put out there in my business is not always intentional. I have acted on my fear of failure. I have been influenced by my fear of scarcity. For example when I think, “I cannot lose this client because I need the money!”

We often get caught up in our fears.

Our fears are fed by the negative voices that disconnect us to why we started our businesses in the first place. Our fears, therefore, influence our intent.

Focus on Intention

If you take a moment to focus on what you want your business to be, you will inevitably go down the right road.

Personally, I am trying to do everything with the intention of helping people with their mindset – from the calls I make to the videos I create. I want my intention to be an active part of everything I am doing.

Connect yourself with what your intention is.

If your fears get in the way, acknowledge them and then chose to work to overcome them in order to create the business you intended.

How has intention affected your business?

If find yourself struggling with what your intention is or find your intention is blocked by fears, join me in my free Core Belief for Business Owners Facebook Group or set up a free call and let’s talk.

Will I lose clients over my appearance: Blocking Beliefs Around Appearance.

July 26, 2017

Blocking beliefs around appearanceIs your appearance blocking your business? Do you fear you will lose clients over your appearance? I often hear people talk about their weight, smile, etc. as a reason they avoid the camera, whether that be Facebook Live, recorded video, or photos. People’s beliefs around appearance often hold them back from achieving both personal and professional goals.

What are you afraid of?

I myself have wrestled with feelings of insecurity when it comes to my appearance. Recently, I was supposed to go to my colourist about my grey hair, but she got sick. I made the appointment because I wanted to discuss incorporating my grey hair into my current colour, but when the appointment was cancelled an alarm went off. I am afraid of my hair going grey because: I am afraid people will reject me if my hair is grey. I am afraid they will think I am old.

From a personal perspective, I have a 13- and a 10-year old and I did not want to be perceived as an old mom, but truth be told, chronologically and biologically speaking, some may consider me an old mom. I had my last child at the age of 38, which is old to some people.

Professionally speaking, I started to imagine and fear that people would not want to work with me if I had grey hair because they would think I am too old. Interestingly enough, I recently had a client who was also afraid she looked too old to take her business to the next level.

When it comes to your appearance, what fears and beliefs do you have around appearance? Do you have a block around doing videos or photos? Why is that? What excuses are you using?

How to get past your appearance

Think about what is holding you back from putting yourself out there. Then look around for someone you admire who has some of the things you are struggling with. Perhaps they have grey hair or are overweight. If you’re an aging entrepreneur worried about people thinking you are old then think about someone like Martha Stewart, who didn’t start building her empire until she was in her forties.

When it comes to weight, look for someone such as Denise Duffield-Thomas, who talks openly about her weight. It’s a nonissue for her, so she makes a great mindset role model, especially if you are self-conscious about your weight.

Think about your role models and what their beliefs are around their appearance.

In the end, people will want to work with you based on what you have inside: skills, knowledge, experience, etc. This is why people are hiring you and want to work with you. If you are letting something as simple as the colour of your hair stop you from putting yourself out there and getting those long-overdue professional photos, then now is the time to de-clutter some of those old beliefs and work to accept your appearance.

If you struggle with beliefs around appearance, book a free call and let’s chat about how we can work together to break through those beliefs that are blocking you. I also encourage you to join my Core Beliefs for Business Facebook Group. It’s a group filled with encouraging entrepreneurs always looking to support and help one another.

Do you become a green-eyed monster when you see your competition?

June 16, 2017

green-eyed monsterRecently in my mastermind group, we had a discussion about becoming a green-eyed monster (also known as jealous) when we see our competition or what we perceive to be our competition.

This can happen at a networking event or when they are tagged in a job on Facebook that you feel you could do better. When this comes up it might be easy to feel you are not good enough and start to feel self-doubt.

Dig Deep & Get Clear

When this happens dig deep and think about when this happened in your life before. If you have felt threatened or jealous before it usually goes back to your childhood – in particular in grade six, seven or eight when maybe you were chosen last for a sports team, or were picked on by classmates.

Get clear on what is going on within yourself so you can be more practical. Then grab a pen and paper and write down or share with your best friend or someone you trust about what makes you unique at what you do. Your life experience makes you unique – and makes you good at what you do.

You need to really think about what you bring to the table for your clients and then focus on the end result you bring your clients.

Practice

In Malcolm Gladwell’s book Outliers, he talks about modern phenomenon, such as Wayne Gretzky and Tiger Woods, and reminds us of how much practice these “best in their fields” had to get to the top of their sport.

With that in mind, think about how many hours you have put into your business and your expertise, and then practice how you can communicate your experience to people.

If you want to talk more about how the green-eyed monster may be affecting you, connect with me and let me share my expertise with you. You can also join my private Facebook Group for entrepreneurs and business owners by clicking here.
