Have you been asked to speak at a conference or an event where you are asked to promote your business? Or have you attended a networking event where you’re encouraged to talk about your business and hand out your business cards? Does the thought of fulfilling these obligations make you feel ill?
Talking about yourself and your business can be very uncomfortable for a lot of people and is something that often holds entrepreneurs and business owners back from growing their business. Self-promotion is often one of the most uncomfortable things about being in business because people hesitate to put themselves out there and talk about themselves.
Have you ever wondered why? Is it just fear and discomfort? Understandably we don’t want to be embarrassed, but how can we put ourselves out there and feel comfortable when talk about ourselves?
Well, when I started doing videos I was very uncomfortable. What’s more I put these videos out there – on YouTube, on Facebook – everywhere. So people who knew me and people who did not saw me on camera. I did this because I knew stepping outside of comfort zone was something I had to do in order to grow my business.
So, what do you think is holding you back from speaking at conferences, events and while networking? Do you feel people will judge you? There are a lot of beliefs around judgment, especially in regards to self-judgment. We often have high expectations about ourselves. The best way to overcome these beliefs is to just do it. And then see what feelings are coming up. Look at these feelings and beliefs to see a pattern and then work through those patterns to change your beliefs.
As a Core Belief Engineering Practitioner, I look at the core of your beliefs, to see what are your subconscious beliefs that are keeping a fear in place. Uncovering these deep beliefs is the catalyst for real change.
If you are just starting out in business and finding yourself struggling to attend and speak at public events, push yourself through it. Go with a friend if you have to – but don’t stick with them the entire time. Think of it like those first days of school and how nervous kindergarten students are until they start into their routine and seeing how fun it is – speaking in front of people is the same thing.
